If you follow along on stories, you might have seen that our favourite Primary Red paper backdrop had to be thrown away as someone had ripped it pretty much down the middle... (PS Please let me know when this happens, I won't bite 😅)

I wasn't going to replace it as the last roll was pretty much new, BUT after the shoot by @stephanieseniorcreative I have ordered a new one!! This shoot is such a vibeeee!!!

I think I might have a slight addiction to backdrops... we did a count and we have nearly 30 different colours! From paper to muslin, velvet, even getting creative with curtains 😉

When I started in photography I only ever shot with natural light because strobes/ flashes scared the shit out of me, I didn't know how to control the light, read it or understand how to use modifiers, reflectors any of that fun stuff!

I had a trial at a bar one night sorting on auto on my camera and TTL on the flash, then somehow put my camera on BULB, and then I had no idea what that meant so I just ignored it and turned it back to auto.

At the end of the night, I was flicking threw the photos with the client and they saw a photo that I had taken by accident where all the lights and colours were blurred and streaky but the people were in focus, and they said I had the job if I could do that with every photo. I of course had no idea how did it so I read the flash and camera manual, Googled and YouTubed as much as I could and taught myself how to create that look 😉

After that I fell in love with flash once I knew how to understand the light and match the camera settings to suit, then I started to get into studio work and the love got even deeper and I was finding myself more in the studio rather than being outside with natural light. Not being able to control the light aka the sun started to do my head in so now I even shoot with flash on location.

And now I have bought a new continuous light, the Amaran 300C Light, this was for people who weren't ready to use strobes but wanted more control with light, I wanted to try it out and now I can't stop shooting with it! It feels like the middle ground between natural light and strobes, you can see what you are shooting, and what you see is what you get, but the light exposure doesn't change (like the sun) but it's strong enough to have your subject lit up!

Bonus points to this light, it is RGBWW which means it changes colour!! Red, Green, Blue, Warm White, and Cool White. You can turn the colour to a nice warm sunset, or the cool tones you get after sunset or go crazy and pick bold colour!!
